Clocking Part 2: How To Clock

Ok now that you know what clocking is and when you want to do it lets get into how to do it.

Running
Running is the best way to clock, why? Because no matter if its a gain or a loss the clock will still run. And.......HELLO THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE AFTER.  But there are still different things that you can do to make running more effective

A way to make your runs more effective is to put more blockers in a spot where there are less defenders (the numbers game). A good example is that people will motion a WR inside and snap the ball when he is behind an offensive lineman. That creates more blockers than defenders in a specific area. The CB may slide over but it wont be fast enough to stuff the run. And those 2-3 free yards is enough to make the defense feel it (and your RB gains momentum to fall forward)..

Dont be afraid of running tosses and other outside runs. You can still employ a numbers game on outside runs. But just make sure you get tackled in bounds....Remember, keep that clock moving.

Passing
Now I really dont like passing the ball when im clocking because only 1 thing good can happen during a pass, a completion. And there are multiple bad things that can happen. In completions, sacks, interceptions, injured QBs., yeah theres a lot of things that can go wrong.

But still passing can be your frind in some cases. A pass when the defense is expecting a run can gash them for a lot (which isnt the goal, all your after is a completion and moderate yards). But it can still keep the defense somewhat honest.

Also a short west coast passing game can completely replace the run (i dont advise it but its an option).

If your going to pass make sure its low risk, high percentage passes. There are still more bad things that can happen during a pass than on a run but a good passing game can hurt the defense in crucial clocking time.

Now you have an idea of how to clock
